An African daydream

1 Mar 06

Access to education is something we in the western world often take for granted. We find ourselves being shepherded through an established system without necessarily being aware of our good fortune.

Imagine if things were different...

Imagine there was no more time for education and the importance of manual labour far outweighed that of reading and writing. What if the provision of educational resources could mean sacrificing money set aside for clean water and food' Would we still take our education for granted'

We are fortunate that education takes priority within our government’s policies and that time and resources are made available to each and every one of us without exception. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many adults and young children in under-developed countries around the world. Education for these people relies on worldwide organizations such as Save the Children and Book Aid to promote their cause and organize the donation and distribution of materials to even the remotest community.

At Daydream Education we see both sides of the education story. On a day-to-day basis we provide educational establishments with a wide range of colourful wall charts and up-to-date interactive technology, designed to increase interest and enthusiasm amongst pupils. In contrast, we also work closely with Save the Children and Book Aid to provide as many varied educational materials as possible to those who have little or nothing.

Since its formation, Daydream Education has been responsible for donating over 14,000 revision booklets and 7,000 wall charts to communities in 13 countries throughout Africa.

This year, with the help of Swindon’s Old Town Rotary Club, Daydream Education has donated wall charts to one school in particular. The Desai Memorial Primary School in Kenya was delighted to receive our resources, and as you can see in the photos, the charts are going a long way to brightening up the classroom and assisting in day to day lessons.

Daydream Education will continue supporting underprivileged schools and help them increase their standard of education. At present, we are planning to donate more of our products to supplement and update those already in use. Regular donations give us the opportunity to enrich the lives of many children and adults deprived of the joys of education and learning.
